Christopher David Wetherspoon is a fiery, anointed preacher and teacher of God's word, and often flows prophetically as he sings and admonishes the Body of Christ to bless the Lord at all times.
Pastor Chris's love of the Lord has been evident through his service to God’s people. He accepted the Lord at the age of 14 and became a youth leader in his teen years and later taught Sunday school at Abundant Life Teaching Center. Founding Pastors Earl & Brenda Thompson ordained him as a minister in 1992. In addition to being a minister of the word, he led praise and worship as a minister of music.
Pastor Chris assisted Pastors Earl and Brenda Thompson faithfully serving as an administrator, and later as an assistant pastor. In 2008, Pastor Chris was installed as Senior Pastor of King's Dominion International Church and has since led KDI, through bible-based teaching, to inhabit everything the Lord has for their life. He remains focused on spreading the gospel and God's love throughout the nations and positively impacting local communities.
Pastor Chris has been married for 35 years and has three beautiful children. He has an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Engineering and a Bachelors of Arts in Biblical Studies from Chicagoland Christian Center Bible Institute and Theological Seminary. Additionally, Pastor Chris has served on several boards with the focus to build better communities in the inner-city of Chicago and abroad.
First Lady Dandra Jerette Wetherspoon is an engaging teacher of the word and an innovative church administrator. Lady Dandra affectionately goes by Elder Dee and has a special love for youth and drama ministries, church administration, and outreach partner-coordination.
Elder Dee accepted Christ as a child and was later ordained as an Elder by her parents and founding pastors Earl & Brenda Thompson. Elder Dee teaches nursery, Sunday School and Bible Study classes. Additionally, she developed the curriculum and structure for the youth ministry and organized teen career workshops. Elder Dee is a gifted writer and has written many skits, plays and poetry for the drama ministry.
As a first lady, Elder Dee is passionate about mentoring young women and helping them reach their life goals. She loves the Lord with all her heart and is a trusted confidant and truly exemplifies the Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman.
Elder Dee is a supportive wife of 35 years, and loving mother to three children. She has a Masters Degree in School Counseling and is a former high school English Teacher. In addition to her work in ministry, Elder Dee is a professional school counselor. She enjoys helping children and teenagers on their road to college and career success.
KDI are the saints of the Most High God and will love one another, help one another and support one another. KDI will be a haven where men, women and children can come and be taught the Word of God for the purpose of causing spiritual, social and financial maturity to take place.
Additionally, KDI will carry an oasis of love where men, women and children can participate in the building of a habitation for God where He can induct individuals and cause them to be aware of the Great Commission.
We will be active bricks, while Christ is the Chief Cornerstone. We will be a part of the building which helps feed and clothe God's people. We will provide spiritual support by praying, witnessing and allowing the light of Christ to shine forth.
Kings Dominion International Church believe in the commandment that God told Adam in Genesis 1:26 “…Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the foul of the air, the cattle, and over all the earth.” Jesus said in Matthew 16: 19 “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, what you bind on earth I will bind, what you loose will be loosed …” Through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have the power to change and influence the world.
Kings Dominion International Church was founded by the late Pastors Earl & Brenda Thompson under the namesake of New Life & Love Family Church in May of 1990 with a bible class in their home. As a result of their faithfulness to the Lord, many souls were won to Christ and the ministry grew.
In 1993, an expansion of the ministry and mission took place and New Life and Love Family Church became New Life and Love Outreach Ministries. Pastor Earl Thompson was a man of the Word and taught line upon line and precept upon precept. Pastor Brenda Thompson was an exhorter who loved to sing. Many have been touched by their obedience to the Lord. Founders Earl & Brenda Thompson were called home to be with the Lord.
Pastor Chris served faithfully under our late founders as a minister and later as an assistant pastor. He was installed as Senior Pastor in 2008. In 2012, after a time of prayer, Pastor Chris took the vision to the next level by changing the name of the ministry to King’s Dominion International Church, which reflects the King of King-our Savior and Lord.
Pastor Chris, together with his wife Elder Dee, continue to lead KDI today and further the mission and vision of the ministry. He enjoys teaching and encouraging Christians to reach their full potential in Christ and making disciples of all who do not know the Lord.
